I am always being told how boring quinoa is to eat. I completely disagree as there are so many different ways to prepare quinoa with different quinoa recipies. If you just boil it up and serve it then I agree – very boring. But what you can do with it once you have prepared it is amazing.
Quinoa Salad Recipes
One of the most common ways is to use quinoa in salads. This is similar to the way you use rice and cous cous. You can mix the cooked quinoa with a range of raw vegetables, seeds and nuts. It also mixes well with pulses such as haricot beans, kidney beans and chick peas. As well as combining the ingredients together you can add favourite dressings to add a bit of flavour and bite. Because quinoa is so nutritionally complete you can consider a quinoa salad a full meal.
Quinoa Stir Fry Recipes
Another way to eat quinoa is by quick frying it in a pan with a range of vegetables and herbs. The quinoa has to be pre cooked before using it in this way. You then fry the vegetables for a minute before adding the quinoa. You then quickly stir fry everything for 3 or 4 minutes before serving.
Quinoa Bread Recipes
Quinoa Flour can be used to make bread but I have yet to find a satisfactory quinoa bread recipe that doesn’t include some wheat flour. This is a problem as many people are looking for gluten free recipes and in particular gluten free bread recipes. I have searched for 3 years for a decent quinoa bread recipe. If you have one let me know on this blog.
Quinoa Breakfast and Desserts
Quinoa Flakes and quinoa grain can be used in a range of breakfast recipes and dessert recipes. I am not saying that quinoa milk pudding tastes the same as rice based milk pudding, but for people on restrictive diets it provides an option. Quinoa can be mixed with strong fruity flavours well and it adds body and substance to any recipe.

Do you know if quinoa can be grown in zone 6 in the US? If so, where can I get the seed?
Great, easy recipe: Cooked quinoa, watermelon, cilantro, ground cherries, tiny bit of salt. YUM!
Hi Megan
I don’t know where you can grow quinoa in the US as I live in the UK. I grow my own in a typical english climate quite well.
I get the seeds from the real seed company Link HERE
Hello – here is a link for gluten-free bread using quinoa plus other flours. Brown rice flour and sorghum. Sorghum is used in a gluten-free pancake mix that I have used. It all turns out well. Good luck and thanks for your information on quinoa.
